Since 1991 European Heritage Days, a weekend is set aside for cities all over Europe, dedicate special visits, guided tours, screenings, and performances to celebrate the diversity of Europe’s heritage. This year this event will take place Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, the 23rd. This year the theme is L’Arte di Condividere (or the Art of Sharing) and features a dynamic list of events dedicated to the rich Italian heritage.

Discover the history of the Casina del Cardinale Bessarione through an innovative experience of curated objects from a secret box.

Visit the House of the Cardinal and a journey through its history via a Secret Box

The Casina del Cardinale Bessarione is a 15th century country villa located at the intersection of Via Appia and Via Latina. The home has a long history as the country residence for the famous Cardinal, a hospital, an inn and tavern. This innovative experience brings the history of the home and the life fo the cardinal to life through the discovery of objects from a curated ‘secret box’.

Visit Palazzo Mattei di Giove and the Library of Modern and Contemporary History

Visit the historic palazzo (located in the same piazza with the famed ‘Turtle Fountain’ and the Costaguti Experience) and the library where a special exhibition dedicated to “1968: L’anno della rivolta” (1968: the year of the revolt). The year was full of headlines across the globe of protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, occupations and more from western Europe to Japan. The exhibit chronicles these events with articles curated from the library.

The Museo dell’Istituto centrale per la grafica (Museum for the Central Intitute for Graphic Arts) will share videos that document projects from the last 10 years dedicated to the study, research and backstage of exhibitions that promote Italian heritage.
